A large family home on a 1300-square-metre block with Mount Majura as a backdrop conveys a dramatic sense of space in an environment where inner urban blocks are rapidly shrinking.
Owner Hazel Southwell says she and her late husband bought the property in the mid-1970s.
“My husband was a farmer and when we came off the land, he didn’t want to feel hemmed in,” she says. “We loved having the nature reserve out the back and there’s parkland to the front – and, of course, it’s a big block.”
The home was built in 1965 and the original builder added another feature in 1974 that also suited the Southwells.
“He extended it with a granny flat and that was perfect for my mother-in-law who lived with us,” Hazel says. “Other family members have used it over the years as they’ve come to visit.”
The home features five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a double garage.
“It’s certainly got plenty of space and large rooms,” says the great grandmother of eight. “Everyone comes home for the big family events like Christmas.”
