House next door to skip bin lists for nearly $6 million
A house in Silicon Valley has hit the market for a sum that makes Sydney property look cheap.
The three-bedroom 1950s house is in the wealthy California city of Cupertino, just an eight-minute drive from the Apple headquarters.
Property here doesn’t come cheap. The median house price in Cupertino is $US2.9 million ($4.5 million) – eight times the US national median.
The house on Richwood Drive is a modest, single-storey bungalow shielded from the street by a mass of bougainvillea.
But the street isn’t all the greenery is hiding.
On the other side of a low brick wall is a mound of garbage.
Several large skip bins are huddled in one corner, while behind them is a pile of cardboard boxes and construction debris.
It appears to be the rubbish collection point for an open-air shopping centre that adjoins the property.
The shopping centre is surrounded by a large carpark with bays for cars and delivery trucks.
If you can get past the skip bins, the house itself is a traditional midcentury family home.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is fitted out with floating timber floors and large windows.
An original brick fireplace can be spotted in the living room.
The home sits on an oversized 845-square-metre block with mature trees and shrubs.
The listing suggests buyers could use the land to add an extension, a swimming pool, or a granny flat for “guests or rental income”.
The property is on the market for $US3,885,000 ($5.95 million).
