Theatre rooms

Offering more than just surround-sound, Sugar Design’s Helen Tadiello says this all-season favourite has evolved to a point where it rivals a trip to a luxury cinema. Velvet curtains, reclining theatre seats and star ceiling effects are all part of the experience.

Wine cellars

For the serious wine connoisseur, a few bottles in the kitchen won’t do. Wine cellars are being built to store hundreds of bottles. Tadiello says some are even large enough to dine in.

Fire pit

The bonfire experience has seen a revival in modern homes in the form of a fire pit. Perfect for the cooler nights, the fire pit can be an extravagant addition, but there are also some surprisingly affordable options available.

Outdoor kitchens

Again, there’s something for every budget here. A pizza oven is a great casual inclusion and there are some smaller options that need only an existing barbecue to operate. At the other end of the scale you’ve got the full-size kitchen complete with integrated appliances.
