For anyone who struggles to get their guests off their phones during meal times, there may be a solution in sight.

The team at IKEA Taiwan has designed a hot plate table that won’t cook the evening’s meal while people remain on their phones.

In the centre of the table is a hot pot but it won’t heat up until all of the phones have been placed underneath it.

Take a phone off the surface underneath and the temperature starts going down, putting your food in danger of getting cold.

The more phones are on the table, the hotter it gets.

Those dreading building one of these tables at home can relax; it comes fully assembled.

IKEA filmed unsuspecting diners testing the product and at first they were stressed out by being able to still see their phones and not touch them.

Eventually, though, they seem to loosen up and just talk to each other.
