Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated after 19 years of marriage, having built fortune, fame and an impressive property empire before that.

The actress has come a long way since purchasing her first home, a one-bedder in Mosman for $81,000 in 1987. She’s worth $430 million, according to The Australian Financial Review’s Rich Women List for 2025, and has snapped up luxury homes in Australia and abroad with Urban.

A source close to the family, who did not want to be named due to the sensitive nature of the matter, told this masthead Kidman is “broken-hearted”, and has been attempting to keep the family together for several months for the sake of her children.

US site TMZ reported on Tuesday (AEST) the couple have been living apart “since the beginning of (the northern) summer”. They married in 2006 and share two children, daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

The year Kidman became a first home buyer

A teenage Kidman purchased her first home in 1987, a one-bedroom unit above shops in Mosman for $81,000.

She bought it without a mortgage after she starred in TV miniseries Vietnam that year.

Kidman gifted the pad in the lower north shore to her sister Antonia in 1993. The property sold for $260,000 in 1998.

Darling Point digs

Kidman married fellow actor Tom Cruise in 1990 and the couple snapped up a duplex in Darling Point in a trust in 1995 for $4.2 million. An addition was made in 1998 for $4.75 million.

The actress made the property her Sydney base after they split in 2001, selling for $12 million in 2009.

Walsh Bay pad

Kidman wed Urban in 2006 and offloaded some of her assets. The actress sold a two-storey penthouse in the Walsh Bay Pier – bought months before her second marriage – for $4.65 million.

Kidman sold her Walsh Bay pad for $4.65 million about 18 months after buying it.

Sutton Forest, Southern Highlands

Kidman and Urban bought historic Georgian mansion Bunya Hill at Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands for $6.5 million in 2008.

They purchased the 1878-built residence from NAB senior executive Peter Coad. It has served as the couple’s Australian holiday home.

The abode is perched on a private hilltop and features wide sandstone verandas, a carved cedar staircase and marble fireplaces.

Milsons Point

Kidman and Urban’s Sydney home is a consolidation of two penthouses atop Milsons Point’s Latitude building, the first bought in 2009 for $6 million from Mark Bouris and its neighbour in 2012 for $7 million.

Another apartment in the building was snapped up in 2011 for $2.68 million.

Her investment company also bought a two-bedroom apartment in the same building for $2.78 million.

This masthead revealed in June 2022 that Kidman snapped up a fifth apartment in the block. Kidman’s corporate interests paid $1.35 million for a one-bedroom pad with a car space on level four overlooking the tree tops into Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden.

John Pagden, of his eponymous agency, declined to comment at the time on the star’s plans for the apartment.

Kidman owns property in different company names, of which this one is by her dear friend Annette Rechner.

In 2023, she made it six in a row in the same building, purchasing a three-bedroom spread on level 15 for $7.725 million, also in her friend’s company name.

Nashville, Tennessee

Kidman and Urban made the Nashville neighbourhood of Northumberland their permanent base after purchasing a seven-bedroom mansion for $US3.47 million ($5.25 million) in 2008.

The property comes with a tennis court and pool.

Kidman told American Vogue in 2008 that she discovered a green thumb while “nesting” at the Nashville home.

“We have a farm there, and I have an organic vegetable garden,” Kidman said. “My mum’s always gardened. My sister gardens. And I’ve now conformed to the Kidman women’s hobby of gardening.”

New York

Multiple media outlets reported in July 2020 that Kidman and Urban had purchased a two-bedroom apartment in trendy Tribeca for $US3.5m.

The pad is in a grand building with three separate entrances, according to The New York Post, and has a pool, hot tub, gym and media room.

The Leonard Street block once held the headquarters of the New York Life Insurance company before being converted into apartments in 2018.

Tinseltown

The couple purchased a five-bedroom estate in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, for close to the listing price of $US4.79 million, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The five-bedroom property is in a gated community and was bought from music producer Ron Fair.
