There are wardrobes, and then there are bespoke dressing rooms.
This project is one of the latter – it was designed to be the “flagship room” in a new house in the south of England.
Canavan Interiors designed the room for renowned UK jockey AP McCoy and his wife Chanelle. The company says the couple both have a large selection of clothing and footwear, due to the constant media, charity and other events they attend.
The design brief stipulated that the dressing room must be luxurious and “have a real wow factor upon entering”.
The dressing room spans 17 metres. Photo: International Design Excellence Awards.
The room is a vaulted space that runs the full length of one of the wings of the home – more than 17 metres.
The cabinets, which run along most of the wall, are handpainted in Farrow & Ball Downpipe and feature solid walnut interiors, dovetailed drawers and Swarovski crystal handles. Every piece of the cabinetry has been tailored to meet the couple’s specific requirements and storage needs.
Glass-fronted doors and interior LED lighting allow the couple to see their clothes and shoes at a glance.
The dressing room has caught the eye of judges in th e annual Society of British International Design (SBID) International Design Excellence Awards. The project is a finalist in the Kitchen Bedroom and Bathroom section of the awards, which will be announced on Friday, November 27.
