It’s the width of a hallway – but it could be yours for free

The real estate equivalent of a single strand of spaghetti has hit the market in England.

It’s a narrow plot of grass that runs between a large op shop and a coach depot in an industrial part of St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.

From the street, all you can see is a tiny dirt footpath peeking out from a dense tangle of weeds and metal scaffolding.

In fact, that is pretty much what you get.

“A freehold parcel of land and consisting mainly of a footpath. Located on the Ridge West Industrial Estate,” the real estate listing aptly summarises.

Compared to most property advertisements the description is brief, running to just 18 words in total.

It’s in keeping with the size of the property itself, which is around 3 metres wide by 70 metres long.

The total footprint is approximately 200 square metres.

Prospective buyers will be relieved to know the property’s sale price is equally modest.

The plot will go to auction with a nil reserve price, according to the listing by Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.

An advertisement on UK listing platform OnTheMarket states a guide price of £5000 ($10,057), but the description again says there is no reserve price.

Successful bidders will still need to pay a buyer’s fee.

The property is in a UK industrial lot.

This is not the first time a footpath has hit the market in the UK.

A narrow strip of land in the city of Norwich went up for sale last month for a guide price of just £500 ($1005).

Meanwhile in Scotland, an even smaller teardrop-shaped patch of lawn went to auction with a guide price of £1000 ($2011).

It was just about big enough for a lemonade stand or a couple of pot plants.

Closer to home, a square of grass down the road from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was listed for sale last August.

It sold prior to auction for $1.238 million.
