This Japanese family’s house has become a tourist attraction and we can’t possibly work out why.

We’ve seen our share of quirky properties, from a boot house in New Zealand to mushroom-shaped cabin in California, but this is the first milk carton home we’ve come across.

Emblazoned on the top and sides of the home are Japanese characters reading “Mainichi Gyunyu” (Daily Milk), a local milk brand.

The house’s red white and blue design is a replica of the brand’s milk bottles.

Fittingly, the homeowners run a milk shop and dairy delivery service from the bottom level of the carton house.

Instagram and Twitter users have been flocking to the area and sharing pictures of the extraordinary home.

In Australia, many people live above shopfronts, but this takes it to a whole other level, where the house has become the product.

Mirasaka, where the house is located, is only a small town but it’s enjoyed national television coverage and an increase of tourists thanks to milk, Japan Today reports.

The house has reportedly been around for three decades, in which time the milk brand design has changed very little.

We can only speculate on whether the house would have cost extra for soy.
