St Kilda Road is Melbourne’s unrivalled grande dame boulevard. This hallowed ribbon of green has been home to the city’s most elegant residential buildings, from the Victorian and art deco eras through to the modern age. Its legacy of luxury is set to be continued by 437 St Kilda Road.

The latest residential undertaking by leading developer Cbus Property will deliver 77 apartments that are enmeshed with their premium location. As Cbus Property chief executive Adrian Pozzo explains, 437 St Kilda Road will reference the boulevard’s history and capitalise on its rare location directly on Fawkner Park.

“It is positioned where Melbourne’s most-prized green boulevard meets its cultural backbone,” he says. “Residents will enjoy uninterrupted views over Fawkner Park, immediate access to the Melbourne Arts Precinct and a seamless connection to both nature and some of the city’s finest cultural experiences”.

Designed with the expertise of architect Bates Smart, Four Three Seven‘s premium three-bedroom, half-floor and full-floor apartments will have all the space of a full-sized home. “Each home prioritises natural light and ventilation, with generous living spaces and thoughtful separation of zones that reflect how people want to live,” Pozzo says. “The green spaces mimic the hallmarks of a standalone house, but they have the security and convenience of resort-level amenities”.

The area’s keen design sensibility and its connection to nature were guiding principles for Bates Smart. The sinuous lines of the Art Deco era are referenced in the facade, including curved details that ensure the era’s elegance will continue inside. The “curved, almost wraparound CinemaScope windows,” as Bates Smart director of interior design Jeff Copolov describes them, will conjure the effect of being wrapped in the view.

“We were guided by the idea of prestige and St Kilda Road’s beautifully articulated architectural gems,” he says. “We took the idea of the grand St Kilda Road mansion and imagined what it would be if it were a grander set of apartments”.

Apartments will be customisable with a bespoke set of materials: bold New York and terra rossa marble for those who want to make a statement, and softer hues for those who lean towards a classic style. Even tapware has been custom-designed in a series of colours to emphasise its Bates Smart-conceived status as the “jewellery” of the home.

The biophilic design, bridging constructed form and nature, is another principle in the extensive shared areas for residents to enjoy. With jade tones and green outlooks, the 25-metre heated pool, dry sauna, steam room and gymnasium are designed for wellbeing.

“Architecture is always driven by site, and the site is incredible in that it overlooks one of the great parks of Melbourne,” Copolov says. “It has all the benefits of being on our grand avenue, connected to the arts precinct and the botanic gardens. Four Three Seven is about bringing together the elements that every Melburnian loves about Melbourne”.
