A striking contemporary house in Throsby, North Canberra, has set a new suburb record, selling privately for $2.3 million.
The property at 8 Kowari Close was listed with Theo Koutsikamanis of Bastion Property Group, who said it had attracted strong interest from families looking for distinctive, high-quality homes in the area.
“The buyers were a young couple from Crace who were originally planning to build but fell in love with this home,” he said.
“It’s not a cookie-cutter design – it’s modernist, mid-century style and beautifully finished. It’s the kind of property that won’t date and really suits people who love to entertain.”
Designed by Melina Design Group with interiors by Studio & You, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home blends mid-century influences with contemporary living.
Clean lines, light-toned brickwork, black accents and expansive double-glazed windows create a timeless aesthetic, while an outdoor kitchen and seamless indoor-outdoor flow make hosting easy.
Opposite a nature reserve, the home offers 487 square metres under the roofline, complemented by a seven-car garage. It sits on a generous 722-square-metre block in a prized cul-de-sac.
While a relatively new suburb in the Gungahlin region, Throsby has seen steady growth but sales exceeding $2 million remain rare. The median house price for the region is $960,000, according to Domain data, slightly under the overall Canberra median of $1,049,067.
Koutsikamanis has sold two of the three properties in the area priced above $2 million. He noted that, before this sale, the last house to break that threshold was sold four years ago, highlighting how tightly held premium homes are in the suburb.
Other high-end sales have hovered closer to the $1.8 million mark, typically for spacious houses on large blocks.
