If you have a bad habit of losing your keys, a centuries-old cottage in England could be the perfect solution.

A gigantic key bigger than a human hand comes with the property.

No explanation has been given in the listing as to what it unlocks.

Househunters online have proposed several theories – some believe it’s the front door key, while others think it could be for a nearby river lock.

The quaint Victorian brick house sits on the banks of the River Nene on the border between Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

It is named Marmont Priory Cottage after a medieval monastery that used to stand in the area.

For centuries, this little house would have been the lock keeper’s cottage.

It would have been the owner’s job to head outside in all winds and weathers to open the river lock and let boaters through.

Today, the historic cottage has been turned into a modern three-bedroom home.

Downstairs is a kitchen with contemporary white tiles and grey cabinetry.

There is a 1980s-style stone fireplace in the living room, along with a large window with peaceful river views.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a small single room that could be used as a study.

The owners will also have the benefit of a boat slip outside with direct access to the water.

Marmont Priory Cottage was recently listed for sale with Ellis Winters Estate Agents for £300,000 ($608,000).

“Located on the banks of the River Nene and boasting a semi rural location with field views the house truly is unique,” the listing reads.

The house is currently under offer. The final sale price has not yet been disclosed.
