New apartment developments with exciting sporting facilities

Swimming pools, gymnasiums and tennis courts were once the must-haves in new apartment towers. Now, developers are offering more lavish sporting amenities in a bid to stand out from the crowded market. 

Rock-climbing walls, bocce fields and virtual golf rooms are just some of the unique facilities popping up in recent and coming projects.

1. Upper West Side 

Location: 20 Spencer Street
Good for: Any urban hipsters who want to channel a Euro vibe.
Sporting facilities: Rock-climbing walls, 25-metre indoor lap pool, gymnasium and bocce fields. 
Developer: Far East Consortium
Status: Towers 1 and 2 are completed, towers 3 and 4 are under construction.

2. Ettaro 
Location: 21 Brunswick Road, Brunswick East
Good for: Swimmers who are tired of a conventional pool. 
Sporting facilities: Bocce court, golf putting green, lap pool and gymnasium. 
Developer: Caydon
Status: Under construction 

3. Australia 108
Location: 
70 Southbank Boulevard, Southbank 
Good for: Those who aspire to be the next Tiger Woods.
Sporting facilities: The Star Club has two infinity pools; the north-facing one for residents on the higher floors and the south-facing pool for residents on the lower floors. There are two gymnasiums in the club and there is another pool and a golf simulator on level 11. 
Developer: Aspial Corporation 
Status: Under construction 

4. Prima Pearl
Location: 35 Queensbridge Square
Good for: Gym junkies who also love the high life. 
Sporting facilities: A virtual golf room which can be booked using an online booking system, 25-metre heated pool and a gymnasium with cardio machines, free weights, lifting facilities, cross-fit equipment and a fully sprung floor with space for group classes, yoga, pilates or personal training.
Developers: PDG Corporation and Schiavello 
Status: Under construction 

5. Sanctuary, Eden and Haven 
Location: 
677-681 Victoria St, Abbotsford
Good for:​ Those who want to justify wearing comfortable workout gear all the time.
Sporting facilities: Heated 25-metre lap pool, gymnasium and a yoga studio run by the Australian Yoga Academy. A personal trainer and swim coach can also be booked by residents.  
Developer: Hamton
Status: Sanctuary is under construction, Eden and Haven are completed. 

6. The Quays
Location: 
231-245 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands 
Good for:​ ​Someone who not only likes the Australian Open, but wants to be a part of it. 
Sporting facilities: Tennis court, yoga centre, indoor swimming pool and gymnasium. 
Developer: MAB Corporation
Status: Completed 

7. Astoria Tower
Location: 
222-228 Sussex Street, Sydney
Good for:​ Those who want to squash their friend or colleague over a friendly game. (Excuse the pun). 
Sporting facilities: Squash court, pool, snooker table and gymnasium. 
Developer: Meriton 
Status: Completed 

8. Zen Apartments
Location: 27 Therry Street, Melbourne 
Good for: Anyone who doesn’t mind losing too many tennis balls over the fence. 
Sporting facilities: Tennis court, yoga room and gymnasium.
Developer: PDG Corporation
Status: Completed 

9. Fifty Albert
Location: 50 Albert Road, South Melbourne 
Good for: Those who value flexibility and time. Why go to a yoga class when an instructor can come to you? 
Sporting facilities: Yoga studio (individual or group yoga instructor can be booked) and gymnasium. 
Developer: Hampton
Status: Completed 

10. Royal Como Apartments 
Location: 663 Chapel Street, South Yarra
Good for: City-dwellers who need an extra room just for relaxing. 
Sporting facilities: Meditation/yoga room, gymnasium and pool. 
Developer:  C&L International Holdings
Status: Construction to begin in October 2015.
