New homes: Woden's regeneration attracts buyers

The regeneration of Woden Town Centre is being felt within both the residential and commercial property sectors.

A 15-year deal was signed to move 750 ACT public servants from the Department of Health to a six-storey building on Bowes Street.

Aviation House sold to a Queensland investor for $68.1 million and the old Medibank building is slated for redevelopment.

Demand has surged for residential properties in Woden, and apartments in Idalia are selling at the rate of about three units a week.

Excavation of the site is complete, the basement slab is set to be poured, and more than 70 per cent of the 99-unit development has sold.

Hindmarsh development manager Rob Speight says the development has been popular with young professionals, including a strong proportion of first home buyers.

“Buyers recognise the evolving urban landscape in Woden and the strong potential for capital appreciation for new apartments in this revitalised town centre,” Speight says.

“It’s attracting a strong contingent of young singles and couples to Idalia, given the project’s position in the centre of the action.

“Downsizers and investors are active too, but it’s those who want to be a part of Woden’s regeneration that are showing the greatest interest.”

Idalia is the most recent release for the Woden Green estate, which is already home to the Avoca and Wilara buildings.

It will feature a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes spread across three low-rise buildings.

The apartments were designed by Scott Carver Architects and solar orientation, sunlit living spaces and energy efficiency were key considerations.

Features such as thermally efficient floor-to-ceiling double glazing and energy-efficient lighting have been included for improved environmental performance and lower energy costs.

Designer appliances, plush carpeting and quality inclusions give each apartment a high-end finish.

The remaining one-bedroom apartments are priced from $329,900, and two-bedroom residences are available from $414,900.
