Home renovators in Europe have gone viral after uncovering a bizarre secret hidden inside the walls of their 90-year-old house.

The man and his partner own a rundown 1930s house in the Netherlands.

Earlier this month, the couple tore a sheet of plasterboard off what they believed to be a solid wall.

Instead of brickwork, they discovered a mysterious yellow door.

“We were scared s***less,” the pair revealed in a viral TikTok video that has been viewed 19 million times.

Commenters suggested a range of morbid theories with a healthy dose of paranormal activity.

But in the end, the couple found something more mundane behind the door.

“It’s a bathroom, besties,” the pair wrote in the caption to a follow-up video.

“So no, the house isn’t haunted … just cursed with questionable carpentry.”

They may not have found a horde of ghosts, but that was not the last of the room’s strange secrets.

When the man peeled back the plasterboard ceiling, he saw that the timber joists were blackened and rotting.

The upstairs bathtub, which was located directly above the secret bathroom, was peeking through the ceiling.

“The upstairs bathtub is holding on for dear life,” the couple wrote.

“We were one bubble bath away from a Final Destination-level chain reaction.”

The crumbling ceiling left many followers shaken.

“Could you imagine if you fell through only to be in a locked room no one else knew about,” one person commented.

“Heavy tub being held up by a pallet and a prayer,” added another.

The couple plan to continue renovating the house over the coming months.
