It’s not too often that a deputy prime minister and a stand-up comedy trio have acted as a catalyst for the purchase of a home, but that’s the back story to this architect-designed 1960s gem.
Homeowner, Brendan Dyson, recalls his student days when he first passed a row of distinctive, modern homes in Hughes. He was told deputy prime minister, Doug Anthony, lived in one.
“Some years later, I came across the busking Doug Anthony All Stars in Civic. They reminded me of that house style I’d always liked,” Brendan says.
“My wife and I managed to buy this one in 1983 – opposite the one Doug Anthony had owned.”
Their home was originally built in 1964, one of 12 assigned to senior defence personnel and public servants.
“Unusually, for the government sector, they were built with en suites,” Brendan says.
“I think they were really keen to attract senior talent.”
The home sits on 1127 square metres. Inside there are three distinct living spaces, a separate kitchen, bathroom, laundry, a master suite with en suite and two further bedrooms.
