Central Coast-based used car dealer Tony Denny has made a return to his Sydney hometown, buying into the rich-list heartland of Point Piper for about $19.5 million.
Dentist Le Tran can thank Title Deeds for the sale of his three-level home, says Denny, because after looking for a well-positioned house with gun-barrel harbour views and plenty of parking he only discovered Dr Tran’s was coming up when he read a piece by yours truly.
“I rang the agents straightaway and viewed it the next day, so I should thank you Lucy,” said Denny.
BlackDiamondz Jad Khattar and Monika Tu were no doubt only too happy to accommodate, snappily securing the sale ahead of an upcoming campaign already signed up in conjunction with Pillinger’s Brad Pillinger.
Pillinger is no stranger to the property, having sold it on behalf of Seven’s commercial director Bruce McWilliam to Dr Tran in 2015 for $16.1 million and two years prior for $13.65 million from investment financier Greg Woolley.
Regular readers would know the house was until recently home to embattled property tycoon Richard Gu, whom Denny says was an “absolute gentleman and a delight to deal with” even as he was vacating the property.
Gu’s charm is perhaps all the more impressive given his move comes as liquidators are appointed to his AXF Group amid a pile of debts that include a mortgage on his luxury float and $12 million owing to the tax office.
Denny, who hails from North Sydney and made his fortune founding the AAA Autos car dealership throughout eastern Europe, has had his own onerous dealings with the ATO which resulted in him shuttering his vintage car collector museum in Gosford last year and selling off the largest privately owned car collection in the southern hemisphere.
Denny had already tapped into the Point Piper market last year when he bought a penthouse in the building across the road from his new home, atop the Liskeard building, for $6.1 million.
There are now plans afoot to complete a renovation of the three-bedroom apartment and keep it for his kids and undertake a complete refurbishment of his new home.
