Robby (37) and Mat (41) are best friends from South Australia. Robby is a barber and business owner, and Mat is a hairdresser and stylist.

Mat is known for being a top hair stylist, with a salon called MJ Hair and 32,300 followers on Instagram.

Robby welcomed his son Brooks to the world with partner Alyssa, right before The Block began filming.

The two met 15 years ago in Adelaide when Mat cut Robby’s hair, and they have been best friends ever since.

While Robby is a diehard fan of  The Block fan, Mat hadn’t watched a single episode before appearing on the show, much to host Scott Cam’s amusement. Together, they are renovating House 5.

All House 5’s room reveal scores in one place

Every week, this page will be updated with Robby and Matz’s room reveal results.

Week 1: Main bathroom (1st place)

The boys started with a bang in week one of The Block, taking out the win with a score of 26.5 for their bathroom.

The boys got a round of applause from the judges after Marty pointed out that they were the only team to include horizontal towel rails. Shaynna couldn’t have been more delighted.

Marty said that, for a week one room, it was “some of the best work I’ve seen” on the show.

Week 2: Kids’ bedrooms (5th place)

The boys came crashing back to reality after their high in week one, coming last in Kids’ Bedroom Week, thanks to a controversial bedhead.

All the judges hated the bedhead – and that was not all.

Shaynna hated the artwork choices, Darren spotted a floor lamp right next to a table lamp, and they all hated the floor mirror, too.

“It’s all underwhelming,” Darren said. “The mood is meh, the mood is yawn.”

To their credit, Robby and Mat seemed more amused by the judges’ endless comedic commentary than devastated.

Week 3: Main en suite (3rd place)

Marty and Darren loved it: Shaynna said it was 'underwhelming' in comparison to the other contestants' more dramatic, moody renovations. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

After a disastrous kids’ backroom last week, Mat and Robby redeemed themselves thanks to their investment in 3000 travertine tiles.

Marty and Darren both fangirled over the room, but Shaynna was not a fan, calling it underwhelming when compared to the other houses’ more dramatic en suites.

Playing it safe earned the boys a score of 27.25, placing them right behind Emma and Ben.

Week 4: Main bedroom (3rd place)

The boys came in third place again, scoring 25 for their main bedroom.

Shaynna loved the double skylights, while Darren adored the textured paint finish and “Australiana” colour palette.

“As one room, it’s really hard to fault,” said Marty.

While the judges loved the room overall, Marty didn’t like the lack of a fireplace and an island bench in the dressing room. Shaynna was frustrated that the boys placed their four-poster bed slightly off-centre.

Week 5: Living and dining room (1st place)

With a massive score of 29.5, Mat and Robby earned the crown this week after they blew away the judges with their grand living and dining room.

It left Marty speechless and earned high praise from Shaynna, noting the chic pendant lights and the dappled sunlight from all the skylights.

Darren loved the conversation pit-style living area, making it the perfect spot for people to sit and spend time together.

“They can market this as the most liveable house on The Block,” said Marty.

Week 6: Rumpus room (5th place)

After a massive win last week, the boys tumbled down to last place with a score of 18 for failing to finish the herringbone flooring.

Even with this blunder, the room as a whole failed to impress the judges.

“Well, at least you weren’t going to win anyway,” said Darren upon entering the room and noting the lack of styling and art.

“This is one of their worst rooms,” Shaynna said. “It’s terrible.”

Marty believed the boys were getting cocky from winning multiple challenges and said, “This room has zero emotion, it sucks.”

Week 7: Kitchen (1st place)

It was another massive win for the boys this week, who tied with Britt and Taz with a score of 28.5.

“I feel like I’m walking into a country estate,” said Shaynna, admiring the Nordic oak cabinetry and the herringbone floors. She even loved the big rainbow-coloured rolling pin hero piece.

Marty said it was the most Daylesford kitchen of the day and called it “luxurious but not pretentious”.

Darren loved the Murphy doors but found them too clunky and was worried the decorations on the shelves could fall if the door was slammed.

Week 8: Guest suite (4th place)

Robby and Mat came 4th this week with a score of 20.5, joining the unfinished-room club for the week (House 2 and House 3 didn’t complete their guest suite either).

The hero of the room – a direct-to-wall artwork painted by Melissa Macfarlane – was a hit. Dramatic and unique, it’s unsurprising judges loved it.

Shaynna called the room “really elegant” which she was surprised to see, as this isn’t usually the boys’ style.

Marty commented on the lack of amenities, however, with insufficient cupboard space and no kitchenette.

Darren countered this, however, saying he didn’t think the room needed a kitchenette as the room does everything he’d need it to do. He appreciated the space’s consistency with the rest of the house.

The excitement was palpable by the time judges approached the bathroom, but they were disappointed to find it incomplete.

Week 9: Back of House (4th place)

Robby and Mat finished in 4th place with a score of 25.5 points.

Their biggest mistake was switching to a small European laundry in the entryway of the butler’s pantry, which the judges felt was insufficient for a family home.

While the expanded pantry area was functional and luxurious – Shaynna proclaimed the tiles to be her favourite, ever – the mudroom wasn’t as well-received.

Marty questioned the tiled feature wall, calling it “really odd” and asking why Robby and Mat would do that.

The tropical-themed powder room was a win for its surprising impact. The garage was a letdown despite the same hexagonal ceiling light Han and Can used in their garage, which judges loved.

Darren summed up the space: “It’s a blank space with a clever ceiling.” The car cleaning kit was noticed as a smart, value-adding touch.

Week 10: Al Fresco and Shed (1st place)

It’s the week Robby and Mat have been waiting for all season with their secret wine cellar: their room reveal didn’t disappoint.

The boys scored a perfect 30-point score, largely due to the show-stopping underground space stocked with local wines.

“Oh my god, this is insane!” Shaynna raved, saying the cellar felt like it was part of a French chateau.

Marty says the addition is likely to take their home into a whole new bracket.

The al fresco deck, with its large dining area and fireplace, was also full of features buyers would enjoy.

The spectacular home gym in the shed wowed judges too, with Darren being the most impressed and admitting: “I wouldn’t leave the shed”.

“They swung hard, but this is a home run,” he said.

Week 11: Backyard and Pool (2nd place)

Robby and Mat came 2nd with a score of 38 points, bested by Emma and Ben thanks to their bonus point gnome.

The duo described the backyard as an “entertainment and family dream”, as the space was kitted out with unique additions like a pickleball court and oversized outdoor fireplace which Marty and Darren loved.

The curved pathways were a standout element, with judge Shaynna calling them “very magical!” and “very Dr Seuss.”

The landscaping design was lauded for its sustainability, being designed to continue growing even without constant irrigation. The judges particularly appreciated the tranquil spot created by the giant feature tree with a small picnic underneath, which Darren described as serene.

However, Robby and Mat did receive criticism for their pool cabana. The judges felt the sauna had been unceremoniously “plonked” into the space, leading Darren to comment that the cabana was “not as luxurious as some of the other cabanas”.
