A significant chapter in the region’s pastoral history has officially closed following the sale of the last remaining acres of “Nargoon,” a property long held under the vast “Kimo Estate” in the Gundagai region.

The land, which had been in the hands of the Robertson family for 114 years, sold under the hammer for $1.58 million on November 30.

According to Ray White Yass principal George Southwell, the final price significantly exceeded expectations, landing well above the published reserve price of $1.25 million.

Originally settled in 1911 by the Robertson family, the Gundagai district property represented the last four-hectare parcel of the family’s significant pastoral holdings. The circa 1911 homestead, which overlooks the scenic Murrumbidgee River, underwent renovations between 2011 and 2021 and features rare rammed earth construction with a large underground cellar, 12-foot ceilings and wide verandahs.

It attracted spirited offers from three registered bidders with connections to the Central Coast, Sydney and Camden.

Southwell, who conducted the sale in conjunction with Ray White Gundagai, said the result demonstrated the strength of the rural lifestyle market when the right strategy is employed.

“The property generated significant interest during its marketing campaign, attracting 52 enquiries, 13 inspection attendees and three formal offers prior to auction,” he said.

The listing achieved more than 27,800 combined views across major property portals.

Located at 554 Nangus Road just five minutes from the Gundagai township and two hours from Canberra, the property includes a modern in-ground mineral pool, substantial water infrastructure and established gardens, from a productive orchard to 100-year-old palm trees.

“After 114 years of family ownership, entrusting the right team with the sale of Nargoon was very important to us,” said the owners, who were the 4th-generation of their family to care for the property.

“They understood the significance of the sale from the beginning and … did an outstanding job of marketing and selling our family home.”
