Kingston’s latest development Salt officially launched today, bringing 104 new homes to the heart of the inner south.
The five-storey complex will house an array of apartments in one, two and three-bedroom configurations in about 40 different floor plans.
Boasting street frontage onto Dawes Street and a pedestrian connection to Green Square, the design exudes a classic elegance that will feel at home among the suburb’s streetscape.
Salt will be built by Core Building Group, developed by POD Project Group and designed by Nathan Gibson Judd Architect.
Mr Gibson Judd is an award-winning architect and has worked on some of Braddon’s most distinctive buildings, including Ori, Palko, Nibu and Yamaroshi.
He says Salt will reflect its surroundings with a timeless design inspired by the suburb’s history.
Light is a key element for the design, both inside and out, Mr Gibson Judd says. The windows have been staggered to create a “lantern effect” from the street, while floor-to-ceiling windows will frame views across Kingston.
Timber laminated floors lend a sense of warmth to the interiors and the natural textures connect with the surrounding leafy outlook.
The kitchens are to be fitted with Bosch appliances, including a fully-integrated dishwasher, a pyrolytic self-cleaning oven, an induction cooktop and integrated rangehood.
Details include soft-closing drawers and cupboard doors, 40-millimetre stone bench tops, an undermount sink and a spring-loaded, pull-down tap.
Attention to detail has also been thoughtfully considered in the bathrooms, which include oversized showers with frameless glass, custom joinery and a stylish over-counter basin. There is also the option for underfloor heating.
Each apartment is available in a light (salt) or dark (pepper) colour scheme.
Ranging from 50 to 90 square metres, the apartments offer an affordable entry point for first home buyers, right through to luxurious three-bedroom units. There are 19 studio, one-bedroom or one-bedroom plus study units, 75 two-bedroom units and 10 three-bedroom units.
Each apartment includes secure parking and lift access. The two-bedroom en suite and three-bedroom en suite apartments have two side-by-side parking spaces included. The underground car park will also house an additional 20 visitor parking spaces.

Who lives here: Kingston’s prime location close to the Parliamentary Triangle and Barton has made it a hot spot for inner-south professionals. As large, luxurious apartments have made their way into new developments, the suburb has also attracted the area’s downsizers.
Features we love: The kitchen is a chef’s dream with Bosch appliances, including a pyrolytic self-cleaning oven and ample storage space. Elegant fixtures and finishes complete the package.
The architect says: “Kingston is a classic, old-school Canberra suburb, it has the vistas and the trees so we wanted to do something a bit more classic and elegant. It’s a simple, restrained, modernesque building.” – Nathan Gibson Judd.
