This cabin on a private island in a river in Hvaler, Norway, is just too cute.
It’s available on Airbnb for $247 a night and it’s only accessible by boat so you won’t be bothered by any tourists.
The cabin has cooking facilities and a fire and can sleep up to five people, though it only has 10 square metres of floor space, making your holiday quite intimate.
If you’re looking to commit to your dream of living on a private island and actually buy one, Big Darby Island is currently on the market for $US39 million ($50 million). The 224-hectare island in the Carribean Sea has a derelict castle that was built in 1938 by Englishman Sir Baxter, who ruled the island before World War II.
“During Baxter’s ownership, Big Darby island was a working plantation with goats, cotton, palm oil and fruit as its products,” notes the listing from Fortune International. “The ‘castle’ is in great need of repair, and can be rebuilt with a historical preservation discipline. Nevertheless, the Baxter Castle has a great development potential for a future investor.” It also features a series of underwater caves if you’re keen for a snorkel.

The Massaro house sits on a love heart-shaped island on Lake Mahopac in New York state.
It was built by Joseph Massaro using Frank Lloyd Wright designs that the famous American architect never got around to building. The home cantilevers a long deck over the water and thankfully has a helipad on the roof. For fans of seclusion, and also mid-century modern architecture.
