If the lease on your rental apartment is coming to an end, you may not want to lock yourself into another standard long-term contract just yet. That is, if you enjoy travelling and visiting new places around the world.
“Sign one lease. Live around the world” is Roam‘s catch cry. The ambitious new start-up is testing the boundaries between work, travel and life adventure – think Airbnb, but for the professional, digital nomad types.
Those who can afford to pay $500 ($A676) per week for “rent” are given their own room, access to co-living spaces, and the chance to travel around the globe, all while continuing to work your regular job (well, if they’ll let you).
Founder Bruno Haid told Co.Exist that he created Roam with “home” in mind. “Each location will house more people than a large home, but not so many that the communal atmosphere gets lost,” he explained.
While Haid hopes Roam eventually makes its way into every major city, the initial destinations have been chosen for their scenic locations and proximity to major city centres, to make working remotely that much more convenient. So far, you can satisfy your wanderlust with stints in Bali and Miami, with Madrid being added from June 1. Soon to be included: Buenos Aires and London.
Roam promises high-speed internet to encourage optimal productivity.
Each room is fully furnished with a queen or king-sized bed and has a private bathroom. Daily fresh sheets and towels are also included.
Roam also offers gathering spaces for events, meetings, and quite spots to finish that book you’re reading.
Before you go telling your current landlord that you have made better plans, we suggest you secure a flexible job that will let you work from anywhere first. Best of luck!
