Single parking spot hits market for mega sum
A single parking spot in one of the world’s most expensive cities is on the market for over $300,000.
The car space is in the upmarket suburb of Fulham in London.
It is part of a large underground carpark below a gated residential apartment tower that overlooks the River Thames.
On offer is a roughly five by two metre rectangle of concrete with an electric vehicle charger.
The parking spot is selling with a guide price of £150,000 ($301,000).
But that’s not the only sum buyers will need to pay – there are also ongoing costs to take into consideration.
The owners of the car space will need to pay a service charge of £271 ($545) and £10 ($20) of ground rent every six months.
The listing by Purplebricks describes the 10-square-metre space as “a rare opportunity to never worry about parking your car again”.
Both residents and non-residents are permitted to buy the spot, which is for sale as a leasehold with 963 years remaining.
This is not the first time a parking space has asked big bucks in London, which is often named one of the world’s priciest cities.
Last month, a double garage ten minutes down the road in Clapham hit the market for the very same sum.
The garage was described as a “rare opportunity” on a “prestigious road”.
Parking fever has also taken over affluent areas of Sydney.
A single garage in Woolhara was snapped up last year for a hefty $500,000, according to the Australian Financial Review.
Car spots are particularly sought-after in the Eastern Suburbs where on-street parking near the beach can be difficult to come by.
Several parking spaces near Bondi Beach have previously been listed for up to $300,000.
