Soccer star Tim Cahill sells waterfront home

Soccer star Tim Cahill joined the throngs of Sydney’s happy vendors this week with a snappy pre-auction sale of his Caringbah South waterfront property for about $6 million.

Cahill will be relieved to have  recouped the bullish $5.25 million he paid for the Willarong Road property in 2006, which set a suburb record at the time.

Despite the home’s luxury finishes and pool, spa, gym, jetty and boathouse, Cahill has spent little time in it in recent years.

Cahill and his wife Rebekah Greenhill moved with their four kids to New York in 2012 when he signed with the New York Red Bulls, and he has split his time between the US and China since March, when he signed a $10 million deal with the Shanghai Shenhua to play in the Chinese Super League.

Greg Gilbert, of  Greg Gilbert Real Estate, was gagged by confidentiality agreements from disclosing the sale result, but sources confirmed it sold for close to its $6 million guide.

The suburb high of $8.5 million, which was set last year for a waterfront mansion on nearby Fernleigh Road when sold by hotelier Geoff Redmond and his wife Alison,   stands. 

One Giant move

AFL head coach for the GWS Giants, Leon Cameron, has bought the Hunters Hill home of celebrity agent Sean Anderson, with settlement revealing a $3.48 million purchase price.

The former AFL footballer and his wife Carolyn bought the Federation house “Warragamba” in March through McGrath’s Tracey Dixon, who then on-sold Sean Anderson and his wife Shelley a slightly larger six-bedroom house around the corner with north-facing water views  for $4.58 million.

Records show Anderson, the head of 22 Management, bought the Gladstone Avenue property from Insurance Australia Group’s commercial insurance boss Peter Harmer and his wife Carmen.

Meanwhile, the Harmers have managed their own step up in real estate, buying the waterfront property on Viret Street from the Rose family late last year for $8 million.

Pink rethink

Pop sensation Pink and her motocross racing husband Carey Hart had not long returned from their holiday at the Whitsundays Island resort of Paradise Bay when they listed their Malibu home for US$13,995,000 ($18,100,00).

If the couple could be tempted back Down Under, the island resort where they were holidaying earlier this year could be their new home, given it too has been listed with a $3.5 million asking price.

Private Islands Australia’s Richard Vanhoff has listed the upmarket boutique resort on behalf of a Gold Coast-based developer couple who paid a bullish $6 million for it in 2009.

Pink, aka Alecia Moore, bought her six-bedroom Malibu home in the exclusive gated Point Dune estate in 2010 for US$11.85 million when she and Hart reconciled after a two-year separation, according to Variety.

Whoopi loses LA

Actor and comedian Whoopi Goldberg is a New York local nowadays, so she has no pressing need for the LA compound she has owned since 1985, when she bought it for US$335,000.

Thirty years later, the co-host of daytime talk show The View is expected to make good on that investment, listing the redundant barn-style cottage in Berkeley with a US$1.275 million asking price.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the main residence is a Victorian three-bedroom house that comes with a barn-style cottage.
