It’s that winter-warming time when weekend and holiday getaways focus on the Southern Highlands and a chance to consider a more permanent tree-change.
While Bowral is usually considered the go-to destination, local agents remind homebuyers of the wide choice of villages, each with its own identity and lifestyle attractions.
Sarah Wotton, of Highlands Property, says there’s a wide spread of towns and villages to consider including Colo Vale, Mittagong, Robertson and Bundanoon.
“The attraction of the Southern Highlands, as far as homebuying is concerned, is that there is a range of property types and price points to suit all needs and budgets,” she says.
“For example, in Colo Vale to the north, four-bedroom family homes can still be bought in the range of $595,000 to $650,000. And, of course, premier properties around Bowral may go for up to $5 million and more.”
Greg Wall of jacksonwall agrees that the expansion of greater Sydney has brought the region into focus for a range of demographics.
“We’re seeing professionals with young families drawn to the area, particularly where they are able to work part of the week from home,” he says.
“Downsizers and retirees are also finding there is a range of property options within walking distance of all their needs.”
Wall says many older residents progressively reduce the size of the property on which they live for options in villa living or movement into retirement communities.
