The Block en-suite bathrooms: Who won En Suite Week?

Another week, another bathroom reveal on The Block. Given we just had a bathroom reveal two weeks ago, you’d be forgiven for being a bit bored of tiles and waterproofing.

But we’re not! Being one of the most technically challenging rooms to put together, bathrooms are always a high-drama zone, and the main en-suite bathroom week led to its fair share of arguments and frantic paint jobs.

A quick recap of the week leading up to this year’s main en suite reveals

Hello, Tom, our old friend. Photo: Channel 9

Han was hit with the gastro bug from hell and wound up in the hospital for days. That meant Can was building their en suite solo, until The Block gods blessed her with 2022 contestant and plumber Tom Calleja. Not that Han took a back seat. She was calling in from her deathbed about everything and managed to crawl across from the trailer park to smash out the last day of construction.

A new challenge was issued: Over the next couple of weeks, each team has to renovate a spa room at the Daylesford wellness venue Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa. The prize? A $260,000 luxury caravan that has so many features it’s probably nicer than your apartment.

Finally, the trailer park turned into a 3am dance club as all the teams got a bit too rowdy on some cask wine (probably), resulting in many sore heads and Taz managing to throw up on Britt in the middle of the night as she slept. Divorce! Immediate grounds for divorce!

The Block en suite bathroom reveals: Judges’ scores and comments

House 1: Emma and Ben (score 28, spend $20,269)

Aside from being dumped by their plasterer (well, Ben would probably say it was mutual), Emma and Ben had very little drama pulling together their stunning maroon-hued main en suite.

Their hero, a curved wall feature in the wet area, is a standout for the judges. Made with a lighter contrast tile, the attention to detail isn’t lost on them, with Shaynna noting that they could have done it without a contrast tile, “but how good does it look?”

Darren adores the “mid-century Western” feel of the bathroom, adding a “yeehaw” to emphasise, of course. Shaynna feels it embraces the “boldness of Daylesford”, and Marty adds that it’s “bold but not tacky”, praising how rich and sumptuous the room feels when you walk in. This is all thanks to the colour palette, which everyone waxes lyrical about, especially paired with the metallic tapware. As Darren says, “That is hot.”

Also! Horizontal towel rails! Shaynna is beside herself.

The only criticisms? No downlights at all. Given it’s a bathroom, the judges feel it’s a bit of an oversight. Also, Shaynna is not a fan of the bathrobes they selected for styling, and honestly, she has a point. They look like the kind of Mother’s Day bathrobes you got with your pocket money for mum when you were 12.

Still, overall, the judges called it a “near-perfect” room. “They’re really the ones to watch,” Marty says.

House 2: Han and Can (score 29, spend $26,753)

Han and Can had a lot of ground to make up after their unfinished bathroom in week one, and you could feel their need for a big win this week. They went for the wow factor in their main en suite, with a giant, amber resin bath and matching twin basins as their showstopper features, and it has worked.

“Holy s—, look at the bath!” Marty says as he steps inside.

Darren adds, “That is some theatre; that is some entertainment.”

Shaynna has never seen a tub like it (she actually got into it; she was so enthralled), and she says it’s a dangerous piece to include if not executed right, but the girls have balanced it out with softer tones around their statement piece.

“It’s a punch in the face with a velvet glove,” Darren says.

Can’s decision to use vertical-joint panelling, something Han thought would make their en suite look like a “barnyard”, turns out to have been a genius move, since the judges love it and it saved them precious time, meaning they were able to finish the bathroom while still giving it personality – although Darren feels the salmon colour could be toned down a bit. “It’s a little much,” he adds.

Shaynna had virtually no criticisms – except a small gripe about the way the towels were hung: “It doesn’t feel luxury.”

She wants Han and Can to be bold and be sure of their direction, and feels like they nailed it. “Stick to it,” she adds.

House 3: Britt and Taz (score 21.5, spend $24,273)

Taz and Britt had by far the toughest run on The Block this week, and it all centred around their arched glass door, which separates a huge, spa-like wet room from the rest of their main en-suite bathroom. Would it open and close smoothly? Apparently not, because the team had to forgo the arched frame in favour of a rectangular one. It all worked out in the end, thankfully.

They might have spent so much time faffing over the arch door that they lost their way with the rest of the room, though.

“It’s all very tight,” Marty says as soon as he enters, noting how close the sinks are to the door. It feels very, very cramped – and the judges are instantly put off by it.

To give you an idea, Shaynna almost walks into the glass arch door as the dry area is so small. “It certainly feels a lot smaller than the other two, because they’ve got nibs on both sides,” Marty says, referencing the dual nib walls that sit around the arched door. “It’s a full wall,” corrects Shaynna. “It’s two rooms.”

Darren loves their huge vanity with double sinks and loads of storage space behind the mirrors, and everyone feels the room as a whole is a serene space. But that’s pretty much where the compliments end, because no one can get over the huge wet area that just contains two showers and a bench you could fit five people on.

“That’s a lot of real estate for two showers,” says Shaynna. “And no bath!” adds Marty.

Marty thinks it feels like an upmarket abattoir. OK, Marty. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

“Can I be honest?” he says. “I feel like I’m sitting in an upmarket abattoir. It’s cold, it’s scary.” Oof. Ouch. Yikes.

Darren disagrees. He thinks it all works beautifully together and that it feels calm and serene.

It’s the best compliment this bathroom gets, which says a lot about how it scores against the others.

House 4: Sonny and Alicia (score 26.5, $18,146 spend)

If you’re wondering why Sonny is looking so dapper in this episode, it’s because barber Robbie gave him a chic new haircut … in exchange for Sonny emptying the boys’ toilet waste container. A fair trade? We think not.

For their main en suite, Sonny and Alicia went completely rogue, moving the entry so it runs from the walk-in wardrobe through to the en suite. They have gone minimalist with design, using slabs of tile (laid by famous Block tilers, the Cursio brothers) paired with plain walls to pull all the focus onto a huge concrete bath by Nood Co.

The judges are shocked by the new entry, and not in a good way. Marty hates that the toilet is now on display and that whoever walks in is met with a bare white wall and some towel rails. Moving the door has squashed everything into the corners of the room, too, which throws off the overall look and feel.

That being said, they’re loving everything else about this en suite.

Shaynna says it’s the best styling she’s seen across the board, and Marty says it could have been “bathroom of the day” if the layout flowed. “This has the makings of a perfect 10,” he says.

They suggest the couple move the door back to its original position, but Sonny and Alicia believe in their overall vision, which will come together when they complete the main bedroom and walk-in wardrobe. They’re not changing anything, hoping the finished product will be a selling point.

House 5: Mat and Robby (score 27.5, $25,336 spend)

Mat and Robbie invested in 3000 travertine tiles for their en suite, which made for a stressful tiling day. But the effort pays off in judging, with Marty and Darren both fangirling over the end result.

Shaynna doesn't feel the 'bravery' or 'soul' ... Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

Darren has a love for their grasscloth wallpaper, and Marty says the room feels luxurious. “This is my love language right here,” Darren says, gesturing to the contrasting wall materials and curved towel rails. “I want to touch everything.”

However, Shaynna isn’t a fan. “I don’t feel the bravery in here, and I don’t feel the soul,” she says. She feels like the boys have “copy-pasted” everything the judges loved about their main bathroom, which won the week, but given that the other houses had taken big, dramatic risks with their main en suites, it’s making House 5’s look underwhelming.

... but this is Darren's love language. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

While Marty agrees that the boys have played it safe, it doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things. He believes that while the room might not have that “punch” the other en suites have, it has sophistication – and buyers are going to love it.

“This whole room is a real estate agent’s dream,” he adds.

Who won Main En Suite Week on The Block 2025?

Han and Can won main en suite bathroom week, scoring 29 after playing their bonus point gnome. Emma and Ben came in second place on 28.

In a Block first, Marty gives the boys a score of 9¾, saying, “It’s so sellable, so marketable … so close to a 10.”

The other winners, though? Sonny and Alicia, who won the budget cash for the third week in a row. Even though they are yet to win a room reveal, they’ve racked up $30,000 in three weeks for being the most money-savvy. We said it before, we’ll say it again – these two are the dark-horse team for 2025.

House Team Score Place
House 1 Emma and Ben 28 2nd
House 2 Han and Can 29 1st
House 3 Britt and Taz 21.5 5th
House 4 Sonny and Alicia 26.5 4th
House 5 Robby and Mat 27.25 3rd

Next week, we’ll see the Blockheads take on their main bedrooms and walk-in wardrobes.

Will Sonny and Alicia’s sneaky layout twist pay off once these are complete? Who is giving “diva behaviour” that prompts Scott Cam to deliver a stern talking-to? And which team messes up their rooms so badly that Marty says he couldn’t sell it to buyers? We can’t wait to find out.
