It’s been a week of tension on The Block, with teams clashing over wine cellars and dodgy deals. It was all going down during one of the toughest periods of the show, Guest Suite Week, which saw each team whipping up a guest bedroom complete with an en suite and other fancy trimmings, like kitchenettes and lounge spaces.
The end result? Multiple teams heading into guest-suite reveal without a complete room. Eek!
It was one of the biggest weeks on The Block this week. (Aren’t they all? But this really was.) As well as delivering their guest suites, teams had to prepare for one of the biggest challenges on the show: The Domain Listings and Buyers Jury challenge, in which contestants hosted 100 potential buyers who voted on their favourite home. The pressure was well and truly on.
Sonny and Alicia revved everyone up at the chumps’ dinner while Robby and Mat and Britt and Taz dined out with Scotty Cam. They wanted someone to call a team meeting to question Robby and Mat on their wine cellar finances. Had the boys been playing dirty when funding their not-so-secret underground cellar? The answer was, sort of. It’s still going to cost them $44,000 but the framework was donated, which shaved tens of thousands off the cost. But that’s not dodgy, really, it’s just smart game play. That’s what the boys tell the others, and their transparency settles the tension.
Speaking of Sonny and Alicia, our resident secret hedge-fund managers are in trouble from the other Blockheads, too. They came in at $1 under budget for their living room, winning them the $10,000 cash once again.
But last week, they then spent $8000 fixing up their lounge area. It’s exceptionally smart gameplay from them – save now, win the money, spend later – but Britt and Taz feel it’s a bit dirty. “It’s a bit of a loophole,” Britt says.
Finally, Robby and Mat were pretty salty when they found out Emma and Ben were also doing a wine cellar.
Adding more salt to the wound, Emma and Ben won the Domain challenge by just one per cent, scoring $50,000 and the chance to fund said cellar.
But enough about the drama! Let’s look at these guest suites.
Emma and Ben decided to put a kitchenette into their guest suite, as well as a walk-in wardrobe, an en suite, and a balcony. It’s a very flashy guest bedroom, and they’re hoping for a big win.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Shaynna says as she walks into their suite. She loves the kitchenette concept, especially the colour selection with a copper sink and matching tapware set against sage-green tiles. Darren loves it too, but says in a perfect world, it needs a coffee maker and a mini fridge to make it more practical.
“It would be hard for me to leave this space; this is a lot of bang for your buck,” Darren says. Shaynna feels the room is consistent with the rest of their home, which is precisely where these teams need to be at this stage in the game.
They do, however, notice some shoddy ceiling work where a false wall was put in. “Yeah, we were rushed,” Emma admits. Still, everything is coming up Emma and Ben this week. “Aesthetically? Heaven,” Darren says of their hidden walk-in robe, while Shaynna loves how much storage space has been allocated.
The judges continue their love fest for the guest en suite, which Darren describes as a “little gem” with its shimmering, muted blue tiles. They also nailed the layout because the door, when opened, hides the toilet but gives access to the vanity. Given en suites are small rooms, this opens the space and leaves it feeling less cramped. “It’s a beautifully laid out space with lots of amenity,” he says.
Marty says it’s highly marketable and will shoot well for their Domain listing, with little details that will pop in photos, like the tips of the trees showing through the Velux skylight. Shaynna notices that the glass isn’t aligned in the shower, and there’s some missing paint on the door. “I feel like Emma and Ben are about perfection,” she says. “And those little things are so important.”
But it’s a minor misstep in a room that Shaynna says is “so close to perfect,”.
“This is a very high bar,” Darren says, to which Shaynna adds: “I feel afraid for the next four houses.”

Han and Can decided to change the layout of their guest suite, closing the door to the en suite so the bed could face the floor-to-ceiling windows and capitalise on the gorgeous Daylesford views. They also added a makeup station into the mix. To keep their home cohesive, they’ve continued with the arch details and resin bathroom additions.
Unfortunately, their vision wasn’t realised – the room ended up unfinished, with barely any styling done and a mess left for the judges. “I’m embarrassed that people are even looking at it,” Can says.
Marty’s first observation is the lack of a kitchenette. He believes this will affect the value of their house, as buyers will notice the kitchenettes in other houses. However, he loves how they’ve hidden the TV behind the curtains, so it’s not so apparent.
Darren loves their use of colour. “It feels punchy and bold, it feels autumnal,” he says, adding that the girls have learned from past mistakes (ahem, that lurid blue main bedroom) and delivered an elevated colour palette.
Shaynna is confused as to why they’ve added a study nook. “It’s a holiday environment,” she says. “Do you want to sit in the corner in a poky area and do your office work?” It is an exceptionally poky study nook; it’s basically Harry Potter’s under-the-stairs bedroom minus a door.
Darren, however, disagrees. He thinks guests might want to have Zoom meetings or get some work done, and giving them a (tiny, depressing) corner to do so is wise. “I’ve watched my husband do it many times,” Darren adds, shocking Shaynna, who feels like it’s grounds for divorce that Darren’s husband has to sit in Harry Potter’s bedroom to conduct meetings. Marty thinks they should pivot the Harry Potter area into a bar space.
Another nook the judges aren’t coping with? The makeup station. It’s unfinished, but Marty and Shaynna don’t think it works regardless.
Thankfully, the judges love Han and Can’s en suite. “This is really sophisticated and very current,” Darren says, adding it’s “everything good about this house”. They love the resin sink and colour scheme. The only issue? The ugly red towel the girls have used to style the space, probably to pick up the colour of the resin sink. But it’s not working, and the judges literally rip it from the (horizontal!) towel rail and throw it out the door.
Even with the unfinished elements, Marty feels the room is great – aside from the missing kitchenette.

Britt and Taz’s vision for their guest suite is an entirely self-contained space. That means a kitchenette, an en suite and even a living area, with access from the outside. They’ve gone for warm tones – rich pinks and burgundy – and half-height wood panelling stained a walnut shade.
Unfortunately, these guys also don’t finish their room. “We’ve not hit this low on the show before,” Taz says, looking visibly disappointed in their result.
The judges love the kitchenette, though, and Darren starts stroking all the surfaces. What did we say about Darren eventually licking the walls? It’s coming, we’re sure of it. “Tactile! Lots of lovely things to touch!” he says, loving the textures Britt and Taz have chosen. Marty is all about the appliances – a microwave, sink, fridge, toaster and kettle. It’s a properly stocked kitchenette!
What he doesn’t love is their wall panelling. It feels odd to him, and he says it’s not as polished as the rest of their home. He thinks it needs to be painted, not stained. Shaynna doesn’t mind the staining; she believes it just needs sealing as it’s a bit raw.
They also aren’t sure about the limited wardrobe space. “They’ve set it up as a pure weekender,” Marty says. “If this was a full-time residence, this doesn’t cut the mustard.”
He generally feels the room is off compared to the rest of their house, especially since they have an ultra-luxe kitchen full of expensive appliances. It’s too rustic for him. “I think it’s a miss,” he says, and Darren agrees somewhat. It’s not as refined to him, but it still feels like Daylesford, and he loves the colours and the warm feeling.
Then they notice the en suite. Or lack of. A sign reading “Room under construction, do not enter” is stuck on the door, and when they open it, they notice it’s really under construction. As in, there is nothing in there besides some waterproofing on the walls and a few tools thrown around. Shaynna can still see the potential among the piles of tiles. They’ve got an enormous skylight, a massive shower, and a good layout happening. The bones are there; they just need to finish it.
Marty says it’s heartbreaking because if this room had been finished, it would have been a strong contender.

Once again, Alicia and Sonny have gone with colour drenching for their guest suite, choosing a deep aubergine colour that Alicia calls “very unforgiving”, and wallpaper she designed in the wallpaper challenge. They’re pushing boundaries again, creating what Sonny calls a “guest sanctuary” that feels self-contained and private.
“The colour drenching is heaven,” Darren says. He loves the aubergine colour choice, and Shaynna loves the custom wallpaper. She finds it rustic and timeless, yet uniquely different.
“It’s something I would buy as a designer,” Shaynna says, which is exactly what you want coming out of Shaynna Blaze’s mouth about your custom-designed anything, really. She actually thinks Grafico should sell it, which shocks Sonny since they didn’t actually win the wallpaper challenge; Robby did. Cue side eyes and awkward glances.
Marty loves the emotion of the room – there’s a lot going on, but it works. Considering Marty has not been loving Alicia and Sonny’s rooms of late, they’re definitely relieved. He notices there isn’t a kitchenette, and while he thinks the coffee and tea station makes sense, the positioning is all off, as it faces the bed.
However, overall, he loves the look. “It feels expensive; it will shoot incredibly well,” he says, but what’s really surprising him is how the guest suites are continuing to be better than the main suites. The teams have levelled up as the show has gone on, and it’s showing.
Alicia and Sonny’s en suite is, thankfully, complete. “Low on budget, high on impact,” Marty notes, basically summing up these secret hedge-fund managers. Shaynna loves the textures of the tiles and feels like Sonny and Alicia have finally found their groove.
“It’s good,” Marty says.
“It’s really good,” seconds Darren.

Mat and Robby’s room hero this week is direct-to-wall art painted by Melissa Macfarlane of Kabinett. It’s dramatic and unique as a feature wall behind their bed, in a room that draws from the abundance of nature in Daylesford, using greens and neutrals as a palette.
Darren immediately strokes the grasscloth wallpaper because, well, the man loves texture. Shaynna is besotted with the hand-painted wall. She finds the room really elegant, and she’s surprised since the boys aren’t really about elegance usually. Take that.
However, Marty feels there aren’t many amenities going on. There is ample cupboard space, but it’s all for clothes – and hanging clothes at that. “It’s lacking that ‘suite’ element,” he says, noticing how there’s no bar or kitchenette.
However, Darren doesn’t think he’d add a kitchenette. He believes the room does everything he’d need it to do, and that it’s consistent with the rest of their house.
They’re super excited to see the bathroom, since the boys are so good with their bathroom spaces. So they’re really disappointed to find it’s incomplete. Still, what exists, they love. Design and functionality are perfect, according to Marty.
“This could have been a really hot contender,” says Shaynna.

The Block‘s guest bedroom winner for 2025 was Emma and Ben, scoring 29.5 points. It’s been a huuuge week for the couple, who not only won the $50,000 from Domain’s Open House challenge, but also a secret bonus-point gnome and scored two perfect 10s! That takes their cash tally to $80,000. Very well deserved for the bridesmaids, who have consistently come second.
Britt and Taz scored their lowest for the series, coming last with 19 points thanks to that unfinished en suite.
House | Team | Score | Place |
House 1 | Emma and Ben | 29.5 | 1st |
House 2 | Han and Can | 23.5 | 3rd |
House 3 | Britt and Taz | 19 | 5th |
House 4 | Sonny and Alicia | 28 | 2nd |
House 5 | Robby and Mat | 20.5 | 4th |
Surprise, surprise, Sonny and Alicia win the budget cash again. They’ve now won the $10,000 best-budgeters prize six times Surely the other teams could pool some money and hire a private investigator to reveal that these two are, in fact, secret hedge-fund managers?
These guys thought this week was tough. Next week, it’s pantry, laundry, garage, mudroom and a powder room. A five-room week!
With Sonny and Alicia racing ahead, tensions look set to reach boiling point.
