Britt and Taz's 'illegal' room sparks controversy at the Domain Open for Inspections

Another week, another finished room (well, outdoor area) on The Block.

That means another round of Domain Open for Inspections. Will our 2025 Blockheads fall in love with Mat and Robby’s underground wine cellar like the “10s across the board” judges did? Or will we see another wave of shock and criticism like last week’s Back of House inspections?

We’ve moved on to Backyard Week, but not before everyone watches the first episode edit, then goes for a nosy sneak peek at what all the other teams did with their al fresco and shed areas.

Most Blockheads loved seeing themselves on TV, with the first episode airing after the Sunday-night room reveal. But there were a few cranky faces.

“Who wasn’t happy with how they were portrayed,” McCafe barista Tina asks Mat, doing the hard work for the rest of us watching on, popcorn in hand.

Cut to Han hiding in her hoodie like a teenager at the back of the bus. She’s embarrassed. She thinks she looks ungrateful with how upset she was that their team landed House 2 in the House Decider Challenge.

“I looked like a spoiled brat, that’s how I felt watching it.” She feels gross about it all.

Can says she just wants to have fun now, and Han agrees. “We never argued before we came onto The Block,” she says.

Then, it’s time for the Domain Open for Inspections. Will they be as snarky as last week?

Nope. It’s all praise for the boys when everyone visits their underground wine cellar.

“They smashed it out of the park,” Emma says. “I tried so hard to fault it,” Britt admits. “But it honestly was frickin’ epic.” Sonny concurs, adding: “Ten out of 10 out of 10 out of 10.”

Is Britt and Taz's shed speakeasy compliant? Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

Alicia says she feels sorry for anyone else doing a wine cellar (ahem, Emma and Ben), because they can’t compete with what Mat and Robby have created. Emma takes a few photos, joking that they’ll copy the whole thing. Well, we assume she’s joking. Imagine if she isn’t …

It’s a different story for Britt and Taz’s confusing shed speakeasy. It’s not that everyone’s critical of it, just critical of its eligibility in the competition.

“Oh! Nice! Not compliant!” Mat says when he walks in. Alicia explains it all to us – you’re not allowed to produce a room you’d spend longer than, say, 40 minutes in. A speakeasy definitely doesn’t fit into that rule!

“The shed was …” Can says, before Han finishes with “Illegal,” an irritated look on her face. She says she loved it, and it was beautifully done, but it wasn’t above board.

Here’s why she feels frustrated: she also had a plan to do a drinking area in the shed, but it was shot down multiple times. She doesn’t understand how they even got away with building it in the first place.

“I’m pissed off,” she says. “How is it okay for one [house] and not the other?”

It leads to a bit of a tiff between Han and Can, who is finding Han’s attitude really negative. “We need to have more fun,” she tells her. “It’s just a TV show.”

But Han’s just finding it really tough – she’s sore, exhausted, and the experience is taking its toll.

Then it’s time for everyone to see the photos of their new areas go up on the Domain listings. “You deserve all the 10s,” Alicia tells Mat and Robby.
