The Block rumpus room reveal: Who won Rumpus Room Week?

The furniture layout stress continues for our Blockheads on The Block this week, as they tackle their rumpus rooms.

These are not the rumpus rooms of your youth – you know, the one your parents banished you and your cousins to during dinner parties, where you sat on a flaky old leather couch fighting over who got to play Super Mario Smash Bros next. Nope, these are stylish second living spaces, and while they might house kids playing Nintendo games at some point, they won’t be sitting on Nan’s old sofa doing it.

A quick recap of the week leading up to this year’s rumpus room reveals

We were promised a week of drama as the rift between Sonny and Alicia and Han and Can continued, but really, it was less of a thunderstorm and more of a light drizzle. These Blockheads are just too nice!

There was one awkward moment where Han and Can were left out of a pub dinner outing, but it seemed more like a miscommunication – they were struck down with nasty colds this week, and Mat, who coordinated the pub session, assumed they were too unwell to come.

Aside from that, we saw the teams reveal their Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa rooms, with previous Block judge and Mr. Lamp Fan Neale Whitaker called in from Milan to pick the winners.

Alicia and Sonny claimed victory, winning a caravan worth $250,000. It was a sweet win for them, considering all the work they put into their room, which had the heated bench seat they claim Han and Can copied off them. But a massive blow for Emma and Ben, who come second – AGAIN.

Robby and Mat also won ANOTHER challenge, this time a wallpaper design task, which led Britt and Alicia to form an alliance to stop them from winning any more cash. They call themselves “Litney”, but it seems like an excuse for the producers to do a (very impressive) remix of Britney Spears’ Gimme More (“It’s Litney, b—-”).

Anyway, on to the room reveals.

The Block rumpus room reveals: Judges’ scores and comments

House 1: Emma and Ben (spend $8700)

Emma and Ben are really tired of their “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” position on The Block. These two have to hold a record for the most second-place scores, right? They’re determined not only to make up for last week’s woeful living and dining score, but to finally win a room this series.

Their game plan is colour-drenching, an attempt to take on the judges’ feedback to avoid playing it too safe, plus sticking to their Block Bucks to try and win the $10,000 prize for the best budgeting.

To make sure their room doesn’t become too sparse with all that frugality, Emma tells us she’s going to hinge their design on a hero piece – a large local artwork she says feels “bougie and grand”.

Darren immediately went straight to single syllables with “Oh. Kay!” on entry.

The judges say Emma and Ben’s rumpus room is everything they wanted from their living and dining space last week.

Shaynna loves the green ceiling. “You feel like you’re being hugged in this room, and it’s all to do with colour,” she says. She loves everything, actually – the floors, the art, the wallpaper. “There is nothing I would fault in their selection,” she says.

Marty says the room is 'very marketable'. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

Marty says he wishes the vibe in this room were reflected in the rest of their house, because this is very marketable.

Darren wonders if the couch placement, with the majority facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, makes sense in what is meant to be an entertainment room. Still, Marty thinks that even though it’s not entirely logical, it capitalises on what House 1 has – that incredible, uninterrupted view.

Overall, the judges are blown away. For the first time in a while, they feel Emma and Ben have set the bar high for the room reveals this week.

“Emma and Ben are back, baby, and it is good to see,” Darren says.

Could this be the week they nab their first win?

House 2: Han and Can (spend $11,570)

While they’re not really the villains of The Block anymore, Han and Can are still the most controversial pair, at least from a design point of view. They’ve had some big wins with their bold aesthetics, and some big losses.

For their rumpus room, they are designing a real entertainer’s space, all hinged on a massive curved couch that takes up half the room.

'It's bloody brilliant,' Darren says. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

The judges are loving it. Darren feels they’ve created the perfect layout for an entertainment space, while still allowing the view of Daylesford to shine and be appreciated. “It’s bloody brilliant,” he says.

Marty loves that the room feels “not too kiddy, but not too adult”, allowing buyers to envision their children enjoying Nintendo time in the space, or seeing it as another area for the adults to chill out with a glass of red.

Shaynna loves the attention to detail, taking note of the fluted velvet feature wall and coffered ceiling. However, she isn’t a big fan of their styling. The arched shelves around the television are full of knick-knacks she finds predictable and poorly matched, like jars of lollies and miscellaneous statues.

Shaynna's only critique? She doesn't like the styling on the shelves. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

However, that’s her only critique, and she says that says a lot about how well they’ve designed the space.

Marty, meanwhile, is ready to quietly dismantle the couch and drive off with it in his car. He adores it and says it’s the best piece of furniture he’s seen on The Block.

House 3: Britt and Taz (spend $10,872)

Britt and Taz have been doing very, very well with their “organic coastal luxury” vision, but this week they took the Byron Bay energy to the next level, secretly turning their rumpus room into a “wellness space”.

What does that look like? Reformer Pilates machines, a bar fridge stocked with electrolyte drinks, and doors that lead out to an ice bath, sauna and hot tub.

It feels very on-brand for Daylesford, which is known as a wellness destination. But the judges are not feeling very “namaste” about it at all.

“I wasn’t expecting a gym,” Shaynna says, looking perplexed by the reformer machines.

Marty is horrified. The room doesn’t feel like it’s part of a house, and he says that with buyers paying $3 million and above, they’ll be expecting ample living space.

“The fridge is a big mistake,” Shaynna says, devastating Taz, its number one fan. It’s not that she hates the style of fridge, but it completely limits what the room could be.

Then they cop the worst criticism from Marty. “Fundamentally, they have just reduced the value of their home.” Yikes!

But the judges think it can be saved. They like the design, just not in the rumpus room. If they move everything to the shed in the yard, they’d love it. Is that a backhanded compliment?

“This is a non-negotiable,” Marty adds. “They really need to listen to us three.”

Britt, meanwhile, is keeping her Pilates socks on. She says she’ll consider what they’ve suggested, but the idea to make the rumpus room a wellness space came from their real estate agents, and they might stick with it.

House 4: Alicia and Sonny (spend $10,846)

The Block’s best budgeters are all about colour-drenching this week, picking a moody “Witching Red” for their walls, ceiling, bookcase … everything, really.

It’s a bold move, but it pays off, at least for Darren.

Marty is less sure. “It’s all the same colour…” he says. “Yeah!” Shaynna enthuses. “It’s all the same colour,” he repeats. “Yeah!” Darren repeats. This could go on forever, but Darren thankfully finds a few more syllables in his repertoire and explains that colour-drenching is seriously on trend right now, and it’s also “so perfect for Daylesford”.

He is “besotted” with what they’ve done colour-wise, but Marty feels it will date fast. Darren doesn’t care – for right now, it’s bang on, and that’s what matters.

Shaynna also loves the colour-drenching tactic. She thinks it’s the “perfect” colour, and says it envelops you as you walk in, which is really appropriate for a “nook room” like the rumpus room.

Marty remains unconvinced, noting that all the fixtures you want to hide, such as the air vents and light fittings, now stand out glaringly, like white pimples on a purple background. Darren agrees with him here, saying that true colour-drenching would have seen those details sprayed as well.

Shaynna has spotted a crime against styling, too. She hates the picture frames that they’ve popped on shelves without photos in them. Alicia wonders what she’d have liked them to do. Put photos of themselves in there? Maybe add a few nice glam shots of Shaynna in your next room, guys.

Overall, it’s a yes from the judges. “Their living and dining were crying for this personality,” Shaynna says. “This room has saved that living space,” Marty says.

Darren says it’s a “near-perfect room”. What a difference a week makes, hey?

House 5: Mat and Robby (spend $9986)

The winners of living and dining have a new tactic this week – aim for the budget cash, not the room reveal win. It’s a smart move, considering Alicia and Sonny have racked up tens of thousands just from being great budgeters, but while Emma and Ben played the same chess move and still created a stylish space, the boys have had a huge miss this week.

Most notably, they ran out of herringbone flooring. After their grand plan to cover the missing flooring with their couch failed, they’ve had to leave a huge chunk of the floor unfinished. Robby decides to write a note: “Sorry, this was out of our control,” with a smiley face, thinking it will appease the judges.

Robby, please. That’s like holding up a red flag to a bull.

'This is one of their worst rooms,' Shaynna says. Photo: Channel 9 / 9 Now

“When you’re managing a project, it’s in your full control,” Marty says, unimpressed by the boy’s attempt at humour.

Darren is scathing about their rumpus room. “Well, at least you weren’t going to win anyway,” he says, looking around at what he describes as a boring space. Marty doesn’t feel any warmth in what they’ve designed, and says it feels uninviting.

“I don’t know how many times I have to say this – stop putting a tiny plant in every corner!” Shaynna cries, pointing at the many tiny ferns Robby and Mat have dotted around their rumpus room, presumably to distract from the half-finished floor. Shaynna really, really hates the tiny plants, and Marty does too. “It’s covered in ferns,” he adds. No one can understand the fern obsession.

“This is one of their worst rooms,” Shaynna says. “It’s terrible.” Ouch.

Marty believes the boys have gotten cocky with their numerous wins across challenges and room reveals, and are now dropping the ball.

“This room has zero emotion, it sucks,” he says, saying the boys haven’t understood the value of a second living space in their house, and have given no effort. Darren agrees; he’s shocked by the lack of styling and art.

The main problem? The room could be anywhere; it has no Daylesford charm.

On to the scores!

Who won Rumpus Room Week on The Block 2025?

Han and Can are the winners of Rumpus Room Week, scoring 29.25 points and taking home $20,000, thanks to a 10/10 score from Darren – and a 9¾ from Marty.

Once again, Emma and Ben come – you guessed it – second with 28 points, with Sonny and Alicia only half a point behind.

And with a massive drop off, our pilates fans Britt and Taz finished fourth on 20.5 points, and the Fern Boys, Mat and Robby, scored just 18 for their emotionless rumpus room.

After scrimping and saving to the point of presenting a terrible rumpus room, Mat and Robby don’t even win the $10,000 for best budgeting. It goes to Emma and Ben, instead – finally, they win something!

House Team Score Place
House 1 Emma and Ben 28 2nd
House 2 Han and Can 29.25 1st
House 3 Britt and Taz 20.5 4th
House 4 Sonny and Alicia 27.5 3rd
House 5 Robby and Mat 18 5th

Next week is Scotty’s favourite: kitchen week!

There is guaranteed chaos as our teams battle with appliances and drawer space, plus it looks like “Litney” is breaking up before they’ve even become proper BFFs. It’s not so Litney, b—-.
