In the age of innovation nothing is sacred and everything can be bettered.

Not even the mundane, like the cereal bowl, can escape the ideas of the crowdfunding mobs wanting to improve your breakfast experiance.

Here are five wacky gadgets you never knew you needed in your home until now.

1. Scented alarm clock

Forget being woken up by that irritating tune on your iPhone, wake up and smell the . . . chocolate?

SensorWake is an alarm clock that wakes you up by scent. Designed by a French engineering student, Guillaume Rolland, the cube-shaped clock squirts fragrances into the air to arouse sleepers.

The scents, whare are made by a Swiss fragrance company, include chocolate, black vanilla, tea tree, hot croissants and coffee. The smell of “money” was even available for those who supported the Kickstarter campaign.

Capsules of the scent of your choice are inserted into the clock and last for up to 60 uses.

Test have proven SensorWake to be 99 per cent effective, but if you’re nervous that your nose will fail you, an alarm can be set to go off after three minutes if you haven’t hit the snooze button.

2. Hot tub hammock

The idea of a hot bath always seems so inviting, but in reality it is not always so.

That hard porcelain (or marble if you’re fancy) that curves in an awkward shape that just doesn’t fit your back/neck, the window of temperature perfection between burning hot and icy cold, the excessive water usage – suddenly not so great. Enter the Hydro Hammock.

Requiring less water than a regular bathtub and in the comfortable and portable shape of a hammock, it can be enjoyed hot or cold, with an optional portable water heater system available to heat up saltwater or freshwater wherever you are.

Made out of sealed synthetic fabric, it can support up to two adults.

Prices start at $US480 ($642) for the hammocks and $US1950 ($2608) for the heating system.

3. A pot that grows with your plant

Move aside terracotta pots, there is a new planter in town.

GROWTH is an expanding pot that grows with your plant, saving you the hassle of repotting as the plant (hopefully) grows.

Designed by Studio Ayaskan, the pot is based on the geometry of origami, and as the image below shows, unfolds to some pretty cool shapes.

4. Toilet that acts as a night light

Being stirred from a peaceful night’s sleep by the urge to visit the loo is annoying.

Apart from having to leave the comfort of your cosy bed, switching on all the lights jolts you out of your slumber, making it hard to fall back asleep. But not if you have a GlowBowl.

Like the light at the end of the tunnel, the motion-sensor gadget lights up your toilet bowl when you enter the room and switches off once you leave.

Simply hook the GlowBowl under your toilet seat and choose from a range of colours – red, blue, yellow, white, purple – to guide you to the loo.

Or, if you’re feeling funky, you can opt to have the colour change every four seconds. Midnight disco anyone?

 5. So long soggy cereal

For fans of crunchy cereals, this neat little bowl is for you.

The Obol is described as “the original crispy bowl”. It keeps your cereal separate from your milk, a solution to the age old problem of soggy cereal.

It has two compartments: a raised section for cereal and a lowered one for milk. Connecting the two is a cereal slide; simply slide your bran/pops/flakes into the pool of milk when you’re ready for the two to meet.

It even has a “patented easy-hold grip”. Happy munching.
