The unique location of a cottage on the coast of England is perplexing house hunters.

At first glance, the property on Clevedon Lane, Clevedon in Somerset, appears to be picture perfect – a story-book stone cottage on two hectares of woodland.

The Grade II listed cottage is “awash with character and that is immediately present when stepping into the living room”, the listing with Greenslade Taylor Hunt reads.

“On the first floor the triple aspect bedroom is a comfortable double room in size, with (a) feature fireplace and hearth.

The 'picture-perfect' property on Clevedon Lane.

“On the second floor, is a further double bedroom with Velux skylight and access into good levels of eaves storage, which can be entered via both the bedroom and landing area adjoining.”

One listing photo shows the property’s long driveway, revealing a private two-bedroom semi detached residence with a separate two-bedroom holiday let and studio.

Also in view are the lush green surrounding land. It gives the impression of quiet seclusion.

With a price guide of £475,000, or $994,000, it all seems near reasonable.

Pictures, of course, can be deceiving.

There, hiding in plain sight in the same listing photo, are four distinct pillars.

With a single click, all is revealed.

The cottage has baffled house hunters online for its proximity to the M5..

The pillars are part of the towering and busy M5 motorway.

“The property is situated on the Northern outskirts of Clevedon. Clevedon remains a sought after coastal town, offering convenient commuter links to both the M5 and the city of Bristol, both of which are in easy reach,” the listing reads.

The cottage’s location has triggered much debate online, with Jack Bushrod’s popular property account Housing Horrors.

“I’ve never seen anything quite like this in my entire life,” Bushrod said in a TikTok video.

“The sound of that must be absolutely excruciating,” he added, referring to the motorway.

He then looked through the listing photos, admitting the inside of the home was “nice” and full of character.

Many of his followers agreed it was not an ideal location.

“Surely sleep is impossible,” one person wrote.

“I would live in constant irrational fear that a car would land on my house,” a second person wrote.

“Beautiful property but couldn’t get past the M5 being above,” one person shared.

Though, others had different opinions.

“In all fairness the M5 is at a standstill most weeks so probably not that noisy,” another wrote.

“It’s the prettiest part of the M5 in fairness,” yet another shared.
