Some 60-70 years ago, the Old Frogmore Inn, two hours north of Canberra, was the heart of this small community and a weekend magnet for farmers and their families from outlying properties.

When exactly the old pub stopped serving its frothy singing syrup is a bit hazy with even the locals scratching their heads to prompt a memory.

For decades since then it served as a family home until its hospitality heritage faded into the mists of time.

But that could all change with new owners who see potential new business options in this sprawling 17-room property that sits on a massive four-hectare block in the centre of this historic village.

The block also holds a large dam, a big shed, ideal for a workshop or even a stable, a small pond, three water tanks and a car port.

But it’s inside the homestead, that the real magic is revealed, according to agent Bev Pellow of QPL Rural.

“You will be blown away. It’s got stacks of room and stacks of character,” she says.

“The features are endless: timber floors, fireplaces, wood-lined walls and more.”

There are eight spacious bedrooms, four with open fireplaces, just right for a bed and breakfast.

A generous bathroom has recently been renovated and includes a spa bath. The laundry is also neatly concealed in a cupboard.

The roomy open plan kitchen/dining room is the perfect location for entertaining with a breakfast bar and electric cooking. The living room is a great size for the whole family or could make a comfortable guest lounge.

Upstairs, is a new space which has just been carpeted and holds two living areas that could be adapted to a variety of uses.

“It’s the perfect building and location for a bed and breakfast, pub or a restaurant,” Pellow says.

“There are plenty of day trippers and weekend travellers exploring the region and a new hospitality option in the area would be a welcome addition.”

Frogmore is 30 minutes from Boorowa and just double that to Young. It’s less than two hours to Goulburn.

The town owes its existence to the discovery of copper in the 1850s and boasted two mines at its peak in the 1870s. Silver and tungsten have also been mined around the area, but there has been no mine since 1907.
