This Hawaiian home has a toilet in the worst place imaginable

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – designing a home really is a subjective endeavour.

But, even though creating a bespoke house from scratch can be an extremely nuanced affair, there are some norms that all abodes must, or at least should, abide by.

You know what we’re talking about, faux pas like big rooms with small windows, ornamental balconies you can’t actually stand on… these sorts of things should always be avoided.

One home in Hawaii, however, laughs in the faces of these mere design mistakes and instead comes equipped with one interior feature that is very questionable.

There’s no easy way to say this – the kitchen has a toilet in it.

Not next to the kitchen, or even adjoining it. No, there’s a thunderdome literally centimetres away from the sink and bench where, presumably, food is meant to be prepared.

Ironically, this disturbing residence is located on Hospital Road, which is exactly where you may end up if you ate a meal from here.

It’s not due to the property having a lack of space either, so why has this harrowing design feature been allowed to escape someone’s nightmare factory of a brain and manifest itself in reality?

Utilitarian design, clever use of space, a pragmatic approach to building a home is one thing, but the sheer inexplicable logic behind this toilet’s location has us stumped.

Sure, the property does boast some benefits, such as a large 2347-square-metre block, central location a stone’s throw away from Kapa’au’s town centre, and even an abundance of fruit trees.

Priced at USD $725,000 ($965,000), the four-bedroom property could also almost be perceived as good value too, especially considering the skyrocketing prices for houses in Hawaii these days.
