Toilet hits market for $270,000 – house not included
A property on a stunning surf beach has hit the market for the price of a Sydney car parking spot.
The quarter-acre property on New Zealand’s Ninety Mile Beach is asking just $273,000.
But there is a catch – the property comes with nothing but a toilet.
The listing describes the property as a “north facing lot with power to the site”.
The offerings are sparse: there is a “flushing toilet”, a water tank, a “compliant sewage system” and very little else.
The 911-square-metre lot is located on Rata Street, Waipapakauri in New Zealand’s northernmost district.
It is on the market for $NZ295,000 ($273,800).
The owners are locals who live a short drive down the beach at Ahipara, according to listing agent Carla Yates from Raine & Horne.
She told OneRoof the owners had originally intended to build a house on the site, but are now selling due to a change of plans.
Waipapakauri is a tiny coastal hamlet on the North Island, known mostly for its fishing and local tuatua shellfish.
Just 225 people call the settlement home.
It is one of dozens of towns scattered along Ninety Mile Beach, an 88-kilometre stretch of sand that is officially classed as a public highway.
Yates says the property on Rata Street is ideal “whether you’re after a hassle free environment with a rural coastal setting or a fantastic holiday spot with an outstanding ocean at your doorstep”.
“The property is priced to sell. Don’t miss out,” the listing reads.
The property is about 15 minutes down the road from the main local hub of Kaitaia, and is close to a UNESCO award-winning primary school.
