Top 4 homes to inspect in Canberra this weekend

January 27, 2023
25 Telopea Park, Barton will go to auction on February 11.

The property industry has been a fascinating topic to bring to the dining table.

The latest Domain House Price Report revealed Canberra’s housing market lost momentum over the December quarter.

The capital recorded a median house price of $1,095,587, a decline of 0.3 per cent over the quarter and 6 per cent year-on-year. The median unit price was $567,888, down 3.1 per cent over the quarter and down 3.7 per cent year-on-year.

Depending on where you are in the market – a seller, buyer or renter – the industry is something we all have some interest in.

One of my new year’s resolutions is to have something I can call my own, so, like many others, I’ll be keeping a keen eye on market conditions and, of course, which properties will be coming up.

Each week is welcome as I scroll through and bring you some of the best properties on the market, so keep scrolling and enjoy some of the best of the best.

Barton

With Rosalie Iannelli

This breathtaking cottage is an original 1930s Kenneth Oliphant design, set elegantly among perfectly manicured gardens, quintessential to Canberra’s Inner South.

There is only a small collection of such character-filled homes that have been renovated to such elegant and comfortable proportions.

This home has been refurbished with the help of a heritage expert and has kept many original details – including battened ceilings, an ornate fireplace and charming picture windows – and combined them with contemporary finishes like polished kauri pine and polished concrete flooring.

25 Telopea Park Barton

The home is generous in its proportions, including the sizeable bedrooms and an extended and carefully crafted glass and concrete kitchen and family room.

Creature comforts include a butler’s pantry in the kitchen, heated concrete floors and an expansive outdoor deck, perfect for entertaining through the seasons.

A grand acorn tree commands the garden. Sitting beneath it are various vegetable gardens intertwined with Japanese maples, weeping cherry trees and red-brick herringbone pathways.

There’s ample space for the kids to run around, but even with their happy screams in the background, this is a most tranquil space to sit and relax.
