A couple in the UK have turned to artificial intelligence to offer potential design ideas for their new home.
It’s been almost a year since Lois and her partner bought an abandoned 1960s home.
The pair had hoped to flip the property to make some cash, but the renovation process left them seeing the home in a new light.
Along the way, they have documented the remodelling progress online. Despite sharing intimate details about the home, they never revealed its exact location or any costs.
“Just over 10 months ago, me and my partner bought the worst house on one of the best streets in our local town to completely renovate and turn it into our dream first home,” Lois said in a TikTok video posted this week.
The couple, who have been together for 17 months, set themselves a challenge to renovate a property after stumbling across the home on UK property listing website Rightmove.
After inspecting the home, they made an offer which was quickly accepted.
Lois said for the price they paid, the couple have “an absolute steal”.
Despite seemingly walking away with a bargain, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.
They are doing much of the renovation themselves and are staying with family while they complete the work.
Though, they have sought advice from builders and architects to bring their vision to reality.
They have also turned to AI, with amusing results.
“Asking ChatGPT to design our 1960s house renovation,” she captioned the video.
“What room is your favourite?”
She then showed a “before” and “after” slideshow of images.
The first image was of the front of the house. In the before photo, there’s a large pile of earth in front of a tired facade and scaffolding gates.
The after photo shows an AI rendering of the home with a modern look.
“Love – but I really want sage coloured windows,” Lois wrote.
Next was the back of the house.
The before shows existing work the couple have commissioned, mainly an extension and a worksite of bricks and dishevelled lawn.
The AI after continues along the modern theme, with decking, a fire pit and what appears to be a summer room or sauna.
“I love this,” Lois commented. “Unfortunately won’t work as the side of the house will have an extension on.”
Lois then asks AI to consider the family bathroom.
The before photo shows a derelict room with a broken bath and toilet, chipped tiles and a patched up timber floor.
The AI after photo has a real wow factor.
Modern fixtures are on show, a lengthy backlit mirror, double basin with generous storage.
It also conjured up a shower and luxe looking bath. But something is missing.
“Love this – but will need a toilet,” Lois notes.
AI delivers. The unconventional design indeed includes a toilet. Not necessarily ideal.
“Not sure about the toilet in the shower though,” Lois notes.
A number of her followers agree, with scores commenting on the video with a shocked or laughing emoji.
“Not the toilet in the shower,” one person wrote.
To which Lois replied: “Make that make sense”.
