A centuries-old manor where the private letters of a key adviser to an American president were uncovered has hit the market for the first time as a luxury rental.
The stately 11-bedroom home, in the secluded valley of Eryri in North Wales, is more than 400 years old, Mansion Global reports.
Built in 1616, the estate has been in the Ormsby-Gore family for generations. As well as the property, the aristocratic family holds the hereditary title of Baron Harlech.
As with many historic buildings, ongoing maintenance is required, much of it costly.

In a bid to restore the vast property, the personal belongings of Sir David Ormsby-Gore, the 5th Baron Harlech, were sold at auction in 2017.
Ormsby-Gore was Britain’s ambassador to the US during the early to mid 1960s. He was a friend and key adviser to President John F Kennedy.
After Kennedy’s assassination in 1963 and the death of Ormsby-Gore’s wife four years later, Ormsby-Gore and Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, formed an attachment, The Guardian reported.
The letters reveal that Ormsby-Gore proposed to Jackie, who replied that she intended to marry Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassi.

The media outlet quoted her letter as reading, in part, that she wanted to “be with somebody who is not part of all my world of past and pain”.
The letters alone had a price guide of up to £180,000 ($365,000).
The funds raised from the auction led to the property’s restoration.
Now, for the first time in more than 400 years, the manor is available for rent through Carter Jonas property group.

“Eleven individually designed bedrooms, many with ensuite facilities, provide space for family and guests, each with its own distinctive charm and character,” the listing reads.
“At the centre of the house, the grand dining hall and adjoining reception rooms create a setting ideal for entertaining or quiet reflection. The kitchen has been crafted with both family life and professional catering in mind, featuring slate floors, generous preparation areas and high-quality appliances.”
The manor also boasts around 100 acres of private grounds which includes formal lawns, walled gardens, wildflower meadows and apple orchards.

Despite its seclusion, the property is a short drive from Harlech Beach and Harlech Castle.
The manor is on the market for £1154 per week ($2340) or £5000 per month ($10,300).
As a comparison, for almost $2500 a week you can rent a three bedroom property in Bellevue Hill. The average price of a three-bedroom unit in the area is $3 million.
