One of Sophie Su's palatial properties currently on the market in Melbourne.

There is an easy elegance to Sophie Su‘s work in one of the most fiercely competitive industries on earth – prestige real estate.

The Kay & Burton Boroondara director, who is fluent in Mandarin and English, is an expert in luxurious, established family homes in Melbourne’s blue-ribbon private-school belt.

She has brokered countless deals – and established record sales – in the elite suburbs of Canterbury, Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn, Hawthorn East, Hawthorn, Balwyn North, Glen Iris and Surrey Hills.

What’s at stake in these deals – ensuring happy parents and children – brings out Su’s natural guiding touch.

“There have been many memorable moments in my career, but the most meaningful are always helping families transition into their next chapter,” she says.

“Buying or selling a home is a significant life event. My role is to provide support, clarity and confidence every step of the way.”

Sophie Su is Kay & Burton's queen of Canterbury.

It stems from Su’s earliest experience of fine real estate: her grandparents’ evocatively beautiful home in China. It is a home she has never forgotten.

“My grandparents’ home in Shanghai left a lasting impression on me,” she says. “It had soaring ceilings, arched doorways and windows, and lush gardens filled with palm trees.

“Even as a child, I was drawn to the finer architectural details. That early awareness of space and design definitely planted the seed for my future in real estate.”

Decades and many sales on, Su still recalls the name and details of her first client, Prue, who was the owner of a period property in Canterbury and had already interviewed six agents.

“When she called me to say, ‘You’re the agent we’ve chosen,’ I was over the moon,” Su says.

“We achieved a street-record price before the auction. That sale confirmed that real estate was where I belonged and cemented my passion for the Boroondara market.”

Clients turn to Su for her in-depth knowledge of the local streets. Last year, she transacted four houses on Canterbury’s Alexandra Avenue in one month.

“I’ve already listed three more on that street this year, one of which sold in the first week,” she says.

It’s also her style, not just her sales results, that is keenly followed.

High-end property and fashion are a natural marriage, and Su’s Instagram and Wechat fans track her latest deals, taking note as her Chanel heels step over the threshold of another new listing.

When the proud mum is not scheduling auctions on tree-lined streets that buyers yearn to get into, she is taking a break overseas or eating out in Melbourne.

“I love to travel, especially with my daughter, and discover new cities and cultures,” Su says.

“When I’m home, I enjoy Melbourne’s incredible dining scene, a bit of shopping and spending quality time with friends and family.

“For me, it’s all about balance and enjoying life’s finer moments.”
