From the outside, you would be forgiven for thinking this house in a quiet Perth suburb is unremarkable.

The two-storey brick house looks like any other family home in Kewdale.

But once you step inside, the home’s idiosyncrasies start to unfold.

The first hint you’re dealing with an offbeat property is on the ground floor, where eagle-eyed buyers will spot three model planes hanging from a bedroom ceiling.

But it’s upstairs where the real zaniness begins.

“When it’s time to cut loose, the family room transforms into a nightclub at the flick of a switch,” the listing by Mallison Real Estate reads.

Fixed to the kitchen ceiling is an industrial-scale array of truss lights, speakers, and even a smoke machine.

When in action, the entire living room becomes a party pad with purple, green and red laser lights.

The property posed a unique challenge for sales agent Oshi Thilakarathna, who had no idea about the setup until she walked in the door.

“I said, ‘Oh, we have to come up with a different concept to advertise this property because it’s not everyone’s cup of tea’,” Thilakarathna told Domain.

The owner lived in the house with his son, who works in audiovisual production and staging and is also a keen DJ.

To convey the property’s unique vibe, Thilakarathna created a tongue-in-cheek video featuring four outfit changes and plenty of fun sound effects.

“The owner was over the moon with the result, the video, everything,” she said.

The property sold within just a few weeks to a young family.

The vendors had offered to remove the truss lighting before vacating the house, but the new buyers opted to keep it.

“The son is a teenager, so he’s the one that actually convinced the parents to keep the lighting,” Thilakarathna said.

“The owner was happy to take it down, but the teenage son said, ‘Mum, I really like the lighting, just keep it.’ So we’re going to sell everything with the property, even the smoke machine.”

The buyers paid the asking price of $1.15 million for the six-bedroom property.

The house is located in a family-friendly neighbourhood overlooking a sunny park, and is just a short drive from the airport.
