You can only use this back door at certain times of the day

A cute cottage for sale in the UK has an unusual floorplan quirk that might leave some buyers scratching their heads.

The traditional Victorian two-up, two-down terrace is in the city of Plymouth on the south coast of England.

The home has an appealing sunflower-yellow facade with a neat brown front door.

It is towards the back of the house where things start to get complicated.

The only way to access the back door is via the downstairs bathroom.

This means the entrance to and from the garden is effectively blocked every time someone is taking a shower.

And if you have stepped outside to do some gardening, you may not be able to come back inside if someone in the house takes a sudden fancy to a bath.

Eccentric bathroom layout aside, the rest of the house is everything you would expect from a modest English terrace.

On the ground floor is a formal sitting room with picture rails, a fireplace and vibrant ruby carpet.

Adjacent sits an eat-in kitchen with a washing machine tucked under one of the benches.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, one of which is currently set up as a study, and a WC, or as we’d call it a bathroom with a loo.

A very small paved courtyard and shed behind the house make up the rest of the property’s offerings.

The house is on the market with Pilkington Estates for offers over £150,000 ($301,600).

It is described in the listing as a “well looked after home” a short walk away from the city centre.

The Plymouth cottage is not the only UK house with a baffling layout to hit the market.

Last year, a two-bedroom house with no front door was listed for sale.

Buyers would have had to walk more than 50 metres through neighbours’ backyards to reach the house.

There are also plenty of odd floorplans closer to home.

An Aussie renter attending an open for inspection recently spotted an outdoor toilet hidden behind a curtain.

The pink curtain and a few sheets of corrugated metal was all that separated the loo from the patio.
