Calling all animation fans, here’s your chance to see My Neighbour Totoro on the big screen – and a whole bunch of other Studio Ghibli titles while you’re at it.

Celebrate! Studio Ghibli at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image is bringing together a collection of 23 films from the renowned studio, giving audiences the chance to explore beautifully designed animated worlds and immerse themselves in imaginative storytelling.

ACMI’s recent mini animation festival Essential Anime Heroines was a celebration of the most beloved female characters from Japanese anime, but now it’s going full Ghibli for a month, and we couldn’t be happier.

From older classics such as Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke to the more recent Arrietty and When Marnie Was There – and my personal favourite, the Academy Award-winning Spirited Away – you can satiate your animation fixation with some of the best animated feature films in existence.

Not only that, you can also uncover the life of the genius behind the studio, Hayao Miyazaki, in the poetic documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness.

Check out the full program at acmi.net.au and start making plans now to avoid missing all of your favourites in the cinema.
