A beautiful former home of late prime minister Sir Robert Menzies is soon to charm well-heeled buyers in the leafy east.

The 1890s property at 74 Charles Street, named Talgai, joins a roll call of homes lived in by the legendary Liberal leader across Kew, Balwyn and Malvern East, and sold in recent years.

It’s understood Australia’s longest serving PM and his family moved to the five-bedroom Kew estate in the early 1920s.

Last year, his home with wife Dame Pattie at 2 Haverbrack Avenue, one of Malvern East’s most exclusive addresses, sold for $5.5 million.

Jellis Craig’s Richard Winneke, with colleague Campbell Ward, is looking after the Charles Street sale.

Winneke has also sold other Melbourne homes lived in by Menzies – Reid Street in Balwyn and Kew’s Howard Street.

Charles Street, which is expected to fetch about $4 million, goes to auction on June 4.
